What is Ferric Citrate ?

Ferric Citrate is an iron-based phosphate binder used primarily to control serum phosphorus levels in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on dialysis. It works by binding dietary phosphorus in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing its absorption into the bloodstream. Additionally, Ferric Citrate serves as an iron source, potentially aiding in the management of iron deficiency anemia often associated with CKD.

• Severe stomach pain, vomiting blood
• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

• This medicine may cause dark stools. This is normal.
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have stomach or bowel problems (including bleeding or inflammatory bowel disease).
• Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
• Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone. An overdose in a child could cause death.
