What is Simulect ?

Simulect (basiliximab) is a monoclonal antibody used as an immunosuppressant to prevent organ rejection in patients undergoing kidney transplantation. It specifically targets the IL-2 receptor on activated T-cells, blocking the IL-2 mediated activation of lymphocytes, which is a critical pathway in the immune response contributing to organ rejection. This medication is typically administered in combination with other immunosuppressants to optimize transplant success.

• Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, joint pain, or body aches
• Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness
• Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet, rapid weight gain
• Chest pain, fast or uneven heartbeat
• Dry mouth, increased thirst, muscle cramps, pale skin or lips
• Sores or white patches on your lips, mouth, or throat
• Diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, or stomach pain
• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
• Blood in your urine or stools
• Change in how much or how often you urinate, pain or burning when you urinate
• Confusion, or numbness and tingling in your hands, feet, or lips

• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• This medicine may make you bleed, bruise, or get infections more easily. Take precautions to prevent illness and injury. Wash your hands often.
