What is Thymoglobulin?
Thymoglobulin is a purified, pasteurized, gamma immune globulin obtained by immunization of rabbits with human thymocytes. This immunosuppressive agent, primarily used in organ transplant recipients, targets various immune cells to prevent and treat acute rejection. Thymoglobulin's broad mechanism involves depletion of T-cells and modulation of T-cell activation and proliferation.Side Effects
- Unusual bleeding, bruising, weakness
- Confusion, weakness, trouble breathing, numbness or tingling in hands, feet, or lips
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
Warnings
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease or an infection.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:Infusion-associated reactionsIncreased risk of cancer, including lymphoma
- This medicine may make you bleed, bruise, or get infections more easily. Take precautions to prevent illness and injury. Wash your hands often.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Numbness, tingling, or burning pain in your hands, arms, legs, feet, or lips.
